Tegbe condoles Akindele, Farinu’s families in Oyo

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Engr. Olasunkanmi Joseph Tegbe has conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the family of Chief Samuel Mojereola Akindele, a thoroughbred progressive who was, until his death the Vice Chairman (Oyo Central) of APC in Oyo state.

In his message, Tegbe described the late political leader as vibrant and articulate Awoist who was passionate about progressive ideologies in and out of government, and remained consistent till he breath his last.

In the same vein, Tegbe has also celebrated the lives of former Chairman of AD in Oyo state, Pa Samuel Farinu and another icon of progressive politics, Pa Salaudeen Adelere, who were long standing leaders of the progressive families till they passed away recently.

He wrote: “these men didnt just represent courage, devotion, discipline and duty as political leaders but also stood as beacons of hope and strong pillars of support on dark days.

“Their experience, wisdom, strength, tenacity and the Progressive Values they held dear all through their glorious lives will be fondly missed and forever celebrated,” he said.

Tegbe further extended his condolence to the immediate families, the Alaafin of Oyo, the All Progressive Congress, friends and associates of the departed leaders and prayed for the strength and courage to carry on at this most crucial time.

Covid-19: Henkel Nigeria donates 500 cartons antibiotics to Oyo Nurses

As part of its efforts to cushion the effects of coronavirus in Nigeria, particualrly in Oyo State, Henkel Global Expand Industries Ltd has donated 500 cartons of antibiotics to the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).

Mr. Charles Ihechere of the research and development department of the company, said the donation was part of the Corporate Social Responsibilities of the organisation to assist frontline workers in the combat against further spread of Covid-19.

Ihechere who pointed out that 500 cases of antibacterial detergents were donated, said the motive was to further help all health workers, patients and everybody in the frontline, adding “this will assist in boosting their morale and encourage them because some of them were paying ultimate price during this problem of coronavirus that is ravaging the world.”

While recieving the donation, the NANNM Chairman, Dr. Dele Adeyemi, flanked by the the State secetrary, Mrs Oluwatoyin Ofere noted that the items would encourage and boost the morale of medical workers.

According to him, “These are one of the projects we want to be doing in our communities, it is not as if we can’t afford to do this, but its an impetus, and it will encourage us and boost our morale while discharging our duties.

“The generalty of nurses in Oyo State will never forget this kind of gesture and we are calling on others to emulate the Henkel Global Expand Industries Ltd.”

Also speaking at the event, the first National Vice President of the association, Mrs Olubunmi Akinsola, who thanked the donor for the gesture, called on other Nigerians to emulate them.

“These are the kind of people that we know that are really supporting the frontliners, they are silent achievers making sure that the lives of the front liners are dear to them and making sure that they curb the spread of corpnavirus in Nigeria, and even globally, this is the first thing they will be donating to us, and we are going to ensure they get to people that are realy doing the work across the State.”

A university Don, Dr. Abiodun Raufu has advised the federal government to take urgent measures to safeguard the Nigerian economy and the people from the combined effects of the global coronavirus pandemic and fall in the price of crude oil upon which the economy depends.

In a press release titled: Tough times require tough solutions, made available to journalists on Sunday, Dr. Raufu who is a former Managing Director of National Mirror Newspapers and currently a lecturer at Texas Southern University in the United States of America called for either outright wholesale ban of several imported luxury items or the imposition of higher import duties on them to reduce consumption of foreign goods and encourage local production.

According to him, Nigeria cannot continue to be the dumping grounds for all manner of goods from all over the world, especially food items that can be locally produced.

“The next few months and years are going to be difficult for Nigerians as the level of unemployment and poverty increases due to the global economic recession and both the federal and state governments must initiate measures to ensure that the country’s economy does not collapse.

“The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the global economy will be felt for some time to come. Saddled with a mono-cultural economy, Nigeria is not making enough money from crude oil because of global oversupply on the back of an international public health challenge which has precipitated a devastating global economic recession.

“The Nigerian economy is currently unsustainable as we produce little and engage in unrestrained consumption of imported goods. To make it worse, we have embarked on a borrowing spree, largely targeted at recurrent expenditure rather than capital projects.”.

Dr. Raufu advised what the country need is a properly thought-out policy agricultural policy that will ensure food security, solve youth unemployment and halt rural-urban migration through the provision of infrastructures in the rural areas to make the countryside livable.

“We have an energetic but largely unemployed youth population and the time has come for us to create a productive economy that is anchored on agro-allied industrialization that will create jobs and take people off the street,” he said.

In addition, Dr. Raufu canvassed for a drastic reduction in the cost of governance through a reduction in salary and emoluments of top public officers. According to him, the Nigerian brand of democracy has proved extremely expensive and unsustainable, requiring cost reduction in the operations of governance and sacrifice by the political leadership at both federal and state levels for the survival of the country.

Ebedi Frontliners Display Ignorance by Insulting Senator Buhari – Iseyin Community

Leaders and Youths in Iseyin has described the statement credited to one Ebedi Frontliners, a political group in Iseyin where they claimed Senator Buhari lied on his efforts on Oyo-Iseyin road as a rare display of ignorance and mischiefs.

“It is quite unfortunate that Alhaji Segun Fasasi and his members cannot separate the role of a lawmaker from that of executives whose function is to provide infrastructures in the country.

The group noted that those behind the unfounded information are cowards and with no meaningful contributions to the development of Iseyin and Oke Ogun at large.

In a statement credited to the National Publicity Secretary of Iseyin Development Union, IDU, Comrade Layo Kehinde, Senator Buhari as a person has taken steps which included personal visitation and letter to the Honourable Minister of Works and Transportation, Babatunde Fashola who has promised to fix the road.

Part of Senator’s effort to make Oke Ogun roads accessible is the ongoing construction of Okeho-Iseyin road, Igbeti/Ilorin road and others in the Senatorial district.

He said the lawmaker should not mind the insults from the group but intensify on his efforts to ensure that the road is fixed soonest.

Comrade Kehinde stressed that Iseyin Community appreciated the efforts being put in place by Senator Buhari while stressing that Iseyin and entire Oke Ogun has never and will never regret given the lawmaker their mandates for the second time.

In a related development, the youths in Iseyin under the umbrella of Iseyin Youth Forum has warned Ebedi Frontliners, Iseyin never to use their names in bringing the Godfearing and outstanding lawmaker down.

The group who expressed this in a release issued this afternoon, signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Ali Nureni said Iseyin youths commended efforts of Distinguished Senator Abdulfatai on Iseyin/Oyo Road.

“We were aware that it is not within the purview of the lawmakers to award contract but that of executive, we are only appealing to our Senator not to relent in his efforts to get the road fixed”, Comrade Nureni said.

He added that Senator Abdulfatai Buhari has never lied to Iseyin, Oke Ogun and Oyo North constituents in general and that was why he was entrusted with the office for the second time.

” He was with us during the electioneering campaign and he promised to do his best in calling the attention of the government to the road which he has started. He didn’t tell us that he is going to do the road when he is not even the executive”, the group disclosed.

The group warned Ebedi Frontliners never to portray Iseyin youths as hooligans to leaders in Nigeria as the Chairman said they were all aware of the letters written first by Senator Abdulfatai and later Honourable Shina Peller before their meetings with the Minister, Babatunde Raji Fashola.

Iseyin youths Forum stressed that they were enjoying the representation of Senator Abdulfatai because he has helped many of them against poverty by empowering them.

The group commended the efforts of the lawmaker on Iseyin/Okeho Road ongoing project, provision of ICT centers in our schools and efforts that resulted to the retain of Oyo North Collation Center in Iseyin.

“This man deserves commendation not condemnation,” Iseyin youths hinted.

They charged Ebedi Frontliners to stop pursuing personal interest thinking that youths in Iseyin will support them but join other forces to genuinely work for the progress of the city without prejudice.

“We appeal to Senator Buhari to please see the embarrassment from Ebedi Frontliners as a political game by selfish figures,” Comrade Nureni emphasised stressing that they are never the spokespersons for Iseyin.

#JusticeForAzeezat: Police arrest suspect linked with the muder

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspect linked with the murder of Azeezat Somuyiwa, the 29-year-old pregnant woman killed in Ibadan on June 5.

Somuyiwa was killed by yet-to-be-identified assailants who smashed her head with a stone in her apartment at Aba Ijefun, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, disclosed the arrest in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan.

“A suspect has been arrested with respect to Somuyiwa’s murder and we are currently on that of Bello.

“The police are intensifying efforts to arrest other suspects linked with both incidents,” he said.

The PPRO said the suspect was providing useful information that would assist the police in their investigation

Seyi Makinde is sweating, tired, who is next in 2023? |Akintunde Akinloye

Looking like a child play, or probably put, before the March 9 election that ushered in Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde as governor of the pace-setter state on May 29th of 2019, the then People Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, now governor sees government as to where one will be adding 1 + 1 and that will give us 2, not knowing that there are more numbers after the two obtained from the result in governance.

Even though there are more three good years to run in Seyi Makinde’s government but can the years be fair as to what we are obtaining now? Not sure, or maybe we should generally start shopping for someone that will understand the rudiment of governance and not the type that will keep the newly refined state in static and not progressing status. We have spent a year already, we are asking HOW FAR instead of asking HOW WELL? But, it is not presently WELL in the state, rather does 2023 FAR also.

Let us put the record straight in this our political society, governance has always been on the run for 2-3years while the remaining 1-2years maybe probably spent or shared between governance and politics, and more reason why any occupier should not try to waste any available time at the inception of his government. Where are we? Where are we going?

Seyi Makinde is truly tired as we can see from his sweating face and may be told to take a rest come 2023 by his neglected party members, leaders, stakeholders and the good people of Oyo State that are scanning for any achievement recorded so far by the administration after their first year of blaming, accusation, counter-accusation and also audio pronouncement.

We may not need to be listing and enlisting the record of achievement made by the former governor Abiola Ajimobi in his first year as it is an open and verifiable achievement outside there back then, compared to the situation we all find ourselves. It is time for the governor to call those praise singers in his government to order, so as not to mount a big wall for him and denied him of seeing his empty achievement while they make the case for him as an achiever. Those that see re-commissioning of past administration’s projects as an achievement for His Excellency need to be fenced out of the way of Mr. Governor, and some other that sees re-awarding of the contract of the former administration as a great feat for the noble and gentle engineer, need to be scolded. Why are they fooling the engineer around?

Scanning through our dear neighborhood states in their first year, one will understand the down line we are in the hand of the Mr. Governor Seyi Makinde, nothing is perfectly moving, we can simply put.

What, who tap me? Oh, we need to look for another occupier as the present is bereft of developmental ideas that will consolidate the modern Oyo State leave behind by the former governor Abiola Ajimobi. Should the search begin in earnest? 

Then who is ready? Bayo Adelabu? Joseph Tegbe? Teslim Folarin? Bisi Ilaka? Femi Babalola?

June 12: Adedoja enjoins Nigerians on unity

A former Minister of Sports and Special Duties, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja has congratulated Nigerians and Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari for sustaining the tenets of democracy in Nigeria inspite of various challenges.

The former Minister therefore called on all Nigerians to celebrate late chief Mko Abiola and all Nigerians dead and alive that have struggled for the emergence of Nigeria’s Democracy.

Adedoja tasked them to remain united, peaceful and support the various programs of the federal government on good governance.

 

Critical Thinking, a springboard for national development – Don

Prof. Michael Olatunji, a professor of Philosophy of Education from Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo says critical thinking is a springboard for any country to attain optimum national development.

He made the disclosure on Thursday while delivering an inaugural lecture at Ajayi Crowther University(ACU) in Oyo.

Olatunji in his lecture entitled ‘Philosophy of Education As Sine Qua Non For National Development: The Nigeria Situation’ said critical thinking if fully embraced would help Nigeria in attain optimum national development.

He said that the challenges of national development must be critically reflected upon before a lasting solution could be attained.

The varsity don said that critical thinking encourages people to shape their personal opinions and attributes with self confidence by investigating issues from different perspectives with logical reasoned arguments.

“The nation’s Philosophy of Education should be stated more clearly and in a more comprehensive way. In addition, the stated associated goals and values that are nebulous must be looked into.

“It is only when these are done that the nation can claim to have started the necessary journey towards national development,” he said.

Olatunji said that experts in Philosophy and Philosophy of Education should be given room to make input into fundamental issues that affect national life, including good governance as well as national development.

According to him, “when teachers and teacher educators become experts in critical thinking, the country will be better equipped to meet up with other nations of the world that have maximally utilised it,” he said.

He advocated the creation of more room in the general studies of tertiary institutions to accommodate ample teaching of critical thinking skills, saying such would enable students to cover sufficient ground in this area.

According to him, “upon graduation, they will comfortably be in a position to put these skills into practice, either in making, analyzing or implementing policies for national development “

The varsity don said the possession of a personal teaching philosophy, well articulated and documented should be integrated into employment requirements for teachers at all levels of the nation’s institutions.

Olatunji said that schools in Nigeria have only succeeded in giving people opportunity of schooling, adding what students and pupils get was instructions in academics, custodian and socialization.

“Individuals that is truly human must not only have his thinking capacity fully developed, the individual must demonstrate total control over his subconscious mind.

“And by so doing, the individual will equally exercise control over every instinct and emotion in him that are brutish in nature,” he quoted late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Speaking on the political office in the country, he suggested that such offices should be made and seen as positions of utter sacrifice for the good of the entire society.

“Political office should be made and seen as positions of utter sacrifice for the good of the entire society. Politics should not be made an all comers job or an avenue to get rich quickly.

“Only those who have practical and obvious record of character and consistent devotion to giving back to the society, and devotion to public interest should be allowed into position of leadership at all levels of government,” he said.

The varsity don also recommended that legislators should be made to serve on part time basis, saying it would help in sifting away power and money seekers from positions.

He said such review would also make more money available in government cover that could be used in alleviating the sufferings of the masses.

The lecture was held in total adherence to the directives of government and health professionals towards containing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Democracy Day: Nigeria would have Witnessed Massive Transformation under Abiola- Ajanaku

An O’odua Youths Leader, Chief Rotimi Ajanaku has said that Nigeria would have been massively transformed if the late Chief MKO Abiola’s victory in the 1993 presidential election was not annulled.

Ajanaku made the disclosure in a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen on Friday in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that Ajanaku, an APC Chieftain was the ZLP House of Representatives candidate for Ibadan South-West/North-West in the 2019 general election.

He said that the late MKO Abiola would have ran a government of the masses with great solution to the myriads of challenges the country was going through.

“Abiola’s administration would have been government for the masses considering the massive support he got in the election. Nigerians believed in Abiola and his electioneering promises.

“His administration if allowed would have brought solution to the problems militating against the unity and progress of this nation,” he said.

The APC chieftain recounted how Nigerians jettisoned ethnic and religious differences to vote massively for Abiola, whom he described as a great philanthropist.

Ajanaku, who joined Nigerians to celebrate June 12 as democracy day, said that the ghost of June 12 would continue to hunt perpetrators untill the nation is transformed.

“What we have as a nation now is not the Nigeria that was in the minds of millions of people who joyfully thronged the streets irrespective of religion and ethnic differences to cast their votes for Bashorun MKO Abiola as president on June 12, 1993.

“As long as this nation and its citizens continues to suffer from myriads of challenges, the spirit of June 12 will never stop hunting those who truncated Abiola’s mandate given to him by majority of Nigerians,” he said.

He commended Buhari and all those who worked with him to get June 12 declared as National Democracy Day, praying also for the families of those who died during the struggle for the actualisation of Abiola’s ambition.

“There’s no better way to immortalise a great warrior and leader of distinct value like late Abiola than what President Buhari has done. The proclamation of June 12 as National Democracy Day by the president.

“This is an outstanding way to immortalise a national leader of unmatched repute, who contributed greatly to Nigeria and the black race,” Ajanaku said.

“As we remember another June 12 today, I pray God keep standing by the families of those who lost their lives to June 12 struggle.

“When the nation shall regain his lost glory, the generation of those who fought for her liberation will be compensated by God,”he said.(NAN)

YAHAYA BUSARI’S DEATH: I just lost an irreplaceable brother, unapologetic loyalist, close confidant, says Adelabu

The entire management of Bayo Adelabu Foundation and political headquarters have expressed deep shock over the death of Alhaji Yahaya Adekola Busari who was a brother and close Associate of Chief Adebayo Adekola Adelabu (a.k.a. Penkelemesi).

“The death of Alhaji Yahaya Adekola Busari was no doubt a rude shock for the 2019 Governorship candidate of APC, Chief Adelabu who is widely known for his unmatched loyalty and level of commitment to the Penkeles’ team during and after the electioneering process which is unequalled,” said the report from the Foundation.

In a statement issued by one of Chief Bayo Adelabu’s Media Aides, Comrade Femi Awogboro, he said his principal is currently mourning the demise of Alhaji Yahaya Busari who he has described as a brother, loyalist, confidant and an unapologetic Penkelemes’ fanatic.

In his words “Brother Yahaya believed in me, trusted in our aspiration and passionate about seeing good governance installed in Oyo state.

“He displayed and supported the cause with everything he had and it’s unfortunate he didn’t live to witness the success of this struggle.

“His untimely death is sad, painful and devastating, especially for me and my team. I believe Brother Yahaya has gone to rest and the Almighty Allah will surely make it a peaceful one.

“He will be greatly missed for all his attributes as a backbone to our team. We will forge ahead and what we owe him is a renewed dedication to the cause he believed in and we shall honour him with the success of this struggle one day, no matter how long it takes us, Insha Allah.

“My heart goes to the family he left behind and I pray that the Almighty Allah will grant us all the energy and the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss. Rest on Yahaya Badara”

According to Awogboro, the late Alhaji Busari was one of the close associates to Bayo Adelabu whose maturity, liberal qualities, wisdom and native intelligence would be greatly missed.

He prayed Allah to grant the deceased forgiveness of his sins, eternal rest and give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Meanwhile, Awogboro emphasised that all activities at the Bayo Adelabu Foundation and Political Headquarters have been suspended for the next seven days to mourn the demise of Alhaji Yahaya Badara.

“This unfortunately includes the well advertised and anticipated interview of Chief Bayo Adelabu on “Covid 19 and Governance in Oyo state….One year After” slated for Fresh FM tomorrow, Saturday 13 June, with Mayor Isaac Brown.

He said a new date will be announced later.

Bashorun MKO Died in Vain |Akintunde Bello

Bashorun MKO Abiola died in vain sadly. He was rigged and for daring to neutralize that high-tech rigging, The Husband of Atinuke Simbiat was picked up and detained with all his hugely status. He did not come out alive. After Abacha had died and rumours flied that MKO was going to be released to assume the office and benefit his long waited mandate as a President Elect, the unthinkable happened, and MKO was poisoned and he died instantly.

It must be stated that Baba Kola had the chance to live as a coward as envoys came to Nigeria to negotiate his freedom with him on account that he will forfeit his mandate. The Aare Ona Kankanfo instead preferred to die as a Hero and refused to surrender because he did not want to betray public trust and his dignity.

To begin to curse the assassins is to curse our race because the famous interview granted by our most eminent Yoruba royalties where Oko Kudirat was abandoned to his fate by his own Fathers remains evergreen in our hearts. We will therefore not lay a curse. The CSO to Abacha Almustapha has also buttressed the point that MKO was first killed from home. May the Yoruba Nation be rescued from this recurring plague as it was also witnessed when Afonja behaved like the Judas.

Today, it is save to say that the later Father of our democratic race after Awolowo before Obasanjo emerged died in vain. He died in vain because he died to state rigging and up till today, the rigging continues in our political experiences.

The lasting good we can do to the memory of the Giant is to forbid riggings in our democratic life in Nigeria and especially Southwest, going forward. Yesterday, drawing inspiration from the works of the erudite Onigege Ara, I tried to develop how Late President Shehu Shagari institutionalized rigging to our electoral parlance in Nigeria vide the political turmoil that happened in old Ondo State between Governor Adekunle Ajasin and his estranged former Deputy, Chief Omoboriowo. When will rigging stop in Nigeria and can somebody who was rigged to office stop the act of rigging? May God bless late President Umaru Yaradua’s soul for he admitted to be a beneficiary of rigging and he attempted to end it by his famous electoral reforms but death stopped the gentleman.

Today, the riggers see rigging as a normal way of life and they wish that rigging never stops. If indeed we want to truly celebrate the life and times of Chief MKO Abiola, we must say a permanent ending to rigging at all levels be it at the grassroots, state, or in the federal level.

I wish to greatly commend President Buhari for finally recognising MKO even in death as a former President and for adorning his posthumous stature with the GCFR title. Politics or not, that is worth some celebration if we think about where we were coming from.

Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State, how I wish you can visit the monument site named after Chief Kasimawo Olawale Abiola in Ido – Osun vide Ede on this day, bush or no bush. It was meant to serve as a airport but human beings played a fast one on the vision and it is a sad reminder to the memory of the departed.

MKO Abiola had defeated his main rival Bashir Tofa in a resounding victory with 8, 341, 309 votes over 5, 952, 087 votes representing 58.36% in favour of the SDP against Tofa who polled 41.64% of the total votes cast. You know nothing about NEMA intervention program in my constituency – Ajibolu exposes PDP

The senior special assistant to Hon. Segun Odebunmi has berated the Caretaker Chairman, Surulere North LCDA, Hon. Sarafadeen Olatunji Mohammed for arrogating the success of an undertaking he knew nothing about to himself.The Senior Special Assistant Alhaji Al-Maruff Ajibolu, cautioned Sarafadeen Olatunji Mohammed from presenting itself as the initiator of the recent interventions/relief programs donated to affected communities within the council area by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in the usual PDP Gestapo manner of reaping where they did not sow which has now become their brand identity in Oyo state. Ajibolu noted that the intervention program was driven to the council area by Hon. Dokun Odebunmi, who used his goodwill and tenacious representive prowess to attract and commit NEMA to the affected communities within the council area.

Ajibolu reckoned that Olatunji seems to be fond of creating good impression about his performances in office to cover up his failures and inability to deliver on the legitimate expectations of the people. Unfortunately, capacity is everything. You cannot give what you did not have.

“It is shameful that the PDP government at the state level who recently went about re-commissioning projects that were already completed by his immediate predecessor and waiting handover, has now knavishly institutionalized such practise and Roguish tendency within their party that PDP appointees like Olatunji now scandalously adopt without remorse all in a bid to deceive the people. It is even most unfortunate, that this comes from a Chairman that is foisted on the people against all known laws governing the administration of Local Government in Nigeria.

Ajibolu stated this while reacting to a report that Mohammed facilitated relief materials worth Millions of Naira to victims of rainstorm which affected about 250 households in 10 communities in April.

Ajibolu said “The council chairman knew nothing about how representatives of National Emergency Management Agency got to know about the incident let alone coming down to the affected communities to assess the extent of damages, only for him to be claiming the glory when they brought the item. It is grossly incredible”.

To put the record straight, My Principal Hon. Segun Dokun Odebunmi facilitated the materials and this was made possible due to the existing harmonious relationship he enjoys with NEMA that antedate even the present government in Oyo state. It is a long term relationship which the people of Surulere and Ogo Oluwa have hugely benefited from for almost half a decade. So one man, who has rarely been to the capital city let alone being aware of the road to NEMA office cannot just come and claim such glory.

He added that “Immediately the incident was reported , Hon Odebunmi in his usual character acted out of duty and wrote a letter to the Headquarters of NEMA after which they stormed the scene immediately. He followed up on this thoroughly till they brought the first batch of the items , only for us to see the council chairman and his stooges spreading it across different media platforms that they have fulfilled promise’.

Meanwhile, He called on the Council boss to instead of progressing in error to ugently liase with the Governor and the Oyo-State Emergency Management Agency to emulate Hon Odebunmi(BUNVIC) by contributing their quota in ameliorating the plight of the victims instead of using same for fake political grandstanding.

Ajibolu aslo commended Mr President and the DG NEMA for assuring the Relief materials are been released on time.

Makinde yet to fulfil promise made to ZLP one year after election, says Alli, Ex-Oyo SSG

Gubernatorial candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the 2019 general elections in Oyo state, Chief Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli has declared that Governor Seyi Makinde of the state has reneged on the promise he made to the party before the election.

Recall that Alli, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin of African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Chief Bolaji Ayorinde of Social Democratic Party (SDP) jettitioned their respective ambitions to support Makinde in the March 9th gubernatorial election which saw him (Makinde) winning the election to defeat Chief Adebayo Adelabu of All Progressives Congress (APC).

The trio were persuaded by a former Governor of the state, Senator Rasidi Ladoja to jettison their ambitions in a bid to defeat APC.

It was gathered that during the merger which Ied to Makinde’s endorsement as the sole candidate, some agreements were reached with the trio and others who worked for the Governor’s success in the election.

It was however learnt that a year after the agreements were reached, Makinde has not fulfil the promise made to ZLP.

One of those who agreed to work for Makinde, Alli alleged that up till now, Makinde has not fulfil the promise he made to ZLP.

The former Secretary to Oyo State government while reacting to some statements credited to one of the Governor’s aide, Babatunde Oduyoye insisted that most of the assertions made by Oduyoye are not correct especially as it affects ZLP.

Alli noted that Makinde promised two slots for the party and one for Senator Ladoja, but one year after the promise was made Makinde has not fulfil the promise made to the party.

He further revealed that ZLP was promised two commissionership slots and two Special advisers of which none was fulfilled up till now.

Alli while speaking with journalists in Ibadan said that he saw the assertion made by Oduyoye as an attempt to cause a crack in the ZLP especially between him and Senator Ladoja.

He warned Oduyoye and his co-travellers not to dabble into ZLP politics but face the issues which are already tearing PDP apart.

Alli said, “Most of the assertions are not correct especially as it affects ZLP.  He promised 2 slots for the party and 1 for Baba. There’s therefore no cause for anyone to complain about the one given to Baba Ladoja, he reneged on the promise he made to the party.

“I have never been or agreed to be a member of the GAC as stated by Oduyoye. I also see it as an attempt to cause a crack in the ZLP especially between Senator Ladoja and myself.

“ZLP was promised two commissioners ship slots and two Special advisers of which none was fulfilled.

“Oduyoye also acknowledged the fact that noting was given to ZLP at Local Government level. I will suggest we limit our reply base on what he said

“Up till this morning, Makinde has not fulfilled the promise made to ZLP. He promised us and he has reneged on the promise.

“I am using this avenue to inform our supporters that they should not relent, better days are coming where we will have government that will not disappoint you. It is a matter of time,” Alli added.

What exactly will I write about the phenomenon, Her Excellency, Erelu Bisi Fayemi? What words can l use to celebrate this rare gem? I ruminated about this quintessential woman of many parts, I couldn’t still find the best words to describe her. I resolved that, the best way to describe her is the way you see her and feel her impactful touches on all, either the known or the unknown.

Erelu is a mother in the real sense of it. A mother who is God-sent to back all the “children” including me. If you call her a Fertilizer, she is. A booster, an encourager, you are not missing it. Call her a Trailblazer, truly she is. Describe her as a Stabilizer, sincerely you are correct. See her as an Iconic Feminist, you are on the track. Tag her as a Painstaker, you are still not wrong. Are you seeing her as an Enhancer? Yes, she is one. Call her a Bridge builder, yes, you are on point. Organiser of note. A Strategist, she is too. A Pillar of support? All join.

Her Excellency is an epitome of good vibes. A supporter and promoter of talents. A developer of skills. A fertilizer for the weak people. A Counsellor, a Teacher, a Guidance, a Philanthropist, an Exemplar, a Rolemodel, a Mentor, a Kind and Humane leader, an Administrator per excellence etc.

Your multiple, useful and colourful wrappers are there for everybody. You have always been the hope of the hopeless, the companion of the dejected, the strength of the feeble, the shoulder that many people lean on and your prompt intervention has on many occasions prevented many from committing suicide. Helping people is your Calling and thank God you are doing it as sent. May you never tired of doing it Ma.
