EACOED Gets Full Accreditations for Degree and NCE Courses

The National Universities Commission (NUC) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) have given full accreditation statuses to all the degree and NCE courses being run by the authority of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo respectively.

Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo has been running Bachelor degree programs in affiliation with the Ekiti State University, Ekiti (EKSU) Ado Ekiti over two decades with products which had immensely contributed to nation building in all walks of life. The NUC has the statutory mandate to accredit academic programmes in all Nigerian Universities.

According to the Provost, Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo, Dr. Rasak Adetunji Adefabi, FIEN, FCIA, the National University Commission communicated the body’s position via a letter reference no NUC/ES/412/Vol.2/160 dated 19 March, 2020 after it conducted the accreditation exercise in the College in December, 2019 addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Ekiti State University, a copy of which was sent to his office. By this development, all the (11) Bachelor of Education degree programs floated by the College had officially received the blessing of NUC to run for another five solid years unabated. Narrating the new development in joy, the Provost listed the degree programs with full accreditation statuses as follows :

1. Education Agricultural Science

2. Education Biology

3. Education Chemistry

4. Education Computer Science

5. Educational Management and Planning

6. Health Education

7. Social Studies

8. Education Political Science

9. Education Economics

10. Education History and International Relations

11. Guidance and Counselling

Speaking further, the Provost stated that put together, the College can now boast of seventeen (17) bachelor’s degree programs altogether with full accreditation. Another interesting thing about the accreditation was the excellent performance the College achieved in the year 2019 NUC accreditation exercise carried out on the College. He submits further that the NUC Technical Committee’s report clearly revealed that the College did not score below 85% in any of the accredited degree courses”, he stated.

In a related development, the authority of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Abuja had also approved and granted full accreditation statuses to three (3) new NCE programmes of the College. Updating the general public about the new outstanding academic feat recorded by Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo on her NCE programmes, Provost, Dr. Rasak Adetunji Adefabi, also listed the following three additional new courses recently floated by the college as :

1. Special Needs Education

2. Adult & Non-Formal Education

3. Theatre Arts Education

He further reported that the NCCE announced this in a letter dated 4 March, 2020 after its Accreditation Team had visited the College between 24 – 28 November, 2019 for the purpose of institutional and academic accreditation. This update has therefore raised the number of courses run by the College to thirty one (31) – all fully accredited.

The Provost specially expressed his profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE for his commitments and support to the College particularly in the consistent and regular payment of staff salaries which has improved staff commitments to duty. In effect, these two feats could not have been achieved but for the unwavering support the College had been receiving from the Oyo State Government under the unparalleled watch of our amiable Governor, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, he stated.

He went further by quoting the NCCE in its letter, “While commending you and the Oyo State Government on this outstanding performance, kindly accept the assurances of the Executive Secretary’s highest regards”. This is no mean an unprecedented feat in the annals of our College, the Provost stated.

He finally thanked his Management Team, Academic and Non-Academic Staff, Students and members of the College Community for their unflinching support which to him had given Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo an enviable rating among the comity of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria and beyond and in fulfilment of the College vision statement.

Makinde’s 365 Days Achievements are Mere Propagandas- SPN

The Oyo State Chapter of Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) has faulted Governor Seyi Makinde’s 365 days achievements in office. It described all the achievements listed by the present administration in the state as phantom and mere propagandas.

In a press conference held in Ibadan on Wednesday by its State Secretary, Comrade Ayodeji Adigun, SPN declared that Oyo State free education policy stands incomplete without the state government paying the external  examination fees of the students and pupils in the schools. SPN emphasised that there was no basis for the Makinde-led administration to be claiming that payment of examination fees should be the responsibility of parents and at the same time be claiming to be running free education policy in the state. 

The statement reads in part: “Even though there is no doubt that some of the interventions and projects packaged as one year achievements of the Seyi Makinde-led government in different areas of the economy like Education, Agriculture, security, infrastructure development and the welfare of workers and pensioners are quite needful and necessary, however, they are not been driven by the philosophy which its fundamental motive is to ensure improvement in welfare and living condition of workers and the poor people in the state”.

“Unfortunately, instead they are been driven by procapitalist philosophy which represents an economic orientation whereby the priority list of Government’s interventions and projects is drawn based on the capacity and potential of such projects and interventions to guarantee an increase in the wealth of the few members of the ruling elites who are either political office holders or acolytes in business who often masquerade as contractors”

“No wonder, Engr Seyi Makinde-led government has decided to rely on Public Private Partnership, PPP and the dubious contract system which are the two cardinal neoliberal policies through which members of the ruling elites award to themselves public funds meant to create sustainable developments and improvement in the standard of living of the people.

“Partly, this is the crux of our worries and concerns as far as these one year achievements are concerned and not even whether or not the so called achievements are comparably more in terms of quantity and quality than the similar one year achievements claimed by the discredited Senator Abiola Ajimobi/ APC led government in Oyo State.”

Speaking further on Makinde’s education policy and programmes, the SPN said welcomed cancellation of N3,000 Levy because it brings a temporary relieve for the poor parents who are the direct victims of the imposed fees but most importantly because the introduction of the fees itself was in the first instance unjust and anti-people. However, the party rejected the continuous propaganda been built around education sector of Oyo State. “Cancellation of the N3,000 levy, stoppage of examination fees and free distributions of six exercise books to each of the students in the public primary and secondary school in the state does not represent a free education” the party said.

“This is clearly a falsification and misrepresentation of fact. Free education goes beyond the cancellation of N3,000 and free distribution of six exercise books for primary and secondary school students in the state. We believe that such an intervention by Engr Seyi Makinde-led government should have better been described as education subsidy and not free education.

“This is because free education entails so many things like the expansion and modernisation of physical infrastructure like classrooms, laboratories, libraries, sick-bays and the provision of free meals, textbooks and possibly uniforms and bursary to students. Also central to the delivery of free and quality education are well-trained and competent teachers with provision of impressive remuneration for them.”

The secretary explained that as longer the present administration in the state continues to use the contact system for the execution of project it will remain a pro-capitalist one.

He added, given this thorough analysis of virtually all of the so called achievements of the one year of Engr Seyi Makinde-led government in office, two things are very evident; “First is that some of the intervention and project that form some of these achievements were actually carried out for the purpose of propaganda. Some were carried out to create a window of opportunity to increase the wealth of the few members of the ruling elites who are either political office holder or acolytes in business”

The SPN called on workers both in private and public sector, market women and men, artisans, students, youths to stop having the illusion that any section of the Nigeria ruling elites regardless of pro-capitalist political party they belong to, is capable of satisfying and meeting the basic areas of needs of the poor people.

Makinde Inaugurates Civil Service Commission

Governor Seyi Makinde on Thursday sworn-in the Chairman and members of the Oyo State Civil Service Commission at Agodi Government House.

Makinde during the swearing-in exercise said, “The Chairman, Alhaji Karmorudeen Abiodun Aderibigbe was my primary school teacher. I congratulated them and urged them to carry out the necessary reforms required in the civil service”.

BREAKING: Oyo Drops to 8th Position COVID-19 Log

Oyo State has recorded one fresh case of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 318. The agency said 350 new confirmed cases were recorded in Nigeria bringing the total confirmed cases recorded in the country to 11,516.

The new active cases were revealed in the routine update released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) late Thursday. The NCDC tabulation shows Oyo State has dropped to 8th position on the national covid-19 log.

The Pacesetter News understands that No. of Cases on admission in Oyo COVID-19 facilities are 213; Number of Discharged patients are 98 and Number of Deaths recorded stands at 7.

According to NCDC, 11516 cases have been confirmed, 3535 cases have been discharged and 323 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory having carried out 71,336 tests.

Kola Balogun, Auxiliary and Olopoeyan in Crossfires

The Senator representing Oyo South senatorial district, Senator Kola Balogun and the Chairman Disciplinary Committee of the Motor Park Managers in Oyo State, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi Auxiliary on Thursday dressed-down a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji  Bisi Olopoeniyan.

Senator Balogun, who phoned in during a programme tagged ‘COVID-19 Situation Room’ on Fresh FM Ibadan, described Olopoeniyan as an inconsequential Ijesha man who is fond of abusing Ibadan people. In a similar vein, Alhaji Auxiliary lambasted Olopoeyan for publicly criticising Governor Seyi Makinde.

In his reaction to the verbal assaults on his person, Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan, described Senator Kola Balogun as inconsequential and not worthy to be a senator of the federal republic of Nigeria.

According to Olopoeyan, “Balogun’s choice as PDP flag-bearer of PDP for Oyo South senatorial elections was an insult on the entire members of the party. Kola Balogun and Mukaila Auxiliary are not members of the PDP. Auxiliary was in prison during our struggle prior to the 2019 elections. In fact, he neither has voter’s card nor PDP membership card.

“Kola Balogun was a member of African Democratic Congress (ADC), even governorship aspirant, he did not partook in PDP primary, Bayo Lawal won the party ticket for Oyo South Senatorial seat but the ticket was taken away from him and handed over to non-member of our party, in person of Kola Balogun.

“If not because of my support, Bayo Lawal would not have defeated Alhaji Azeez Gbolarunmi at the party primaries but at the end of the day, the ticket was taken from him. Though I opposed the candidature of Kola Balogun, we gave him maximum supports to defeat the then incumbent Governor of the state.

“A true party member, Kola Balogun would not praising an ex-convict against a party chieftain. If he is a true party man, he would not be distributing a congo of beans as a palliatives while members of House of Reps are distributing various food stuffs as palliatives.

…we’ll increase capacity to handle rape cases–Aderemi

Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has charged people in positions of authority to always act with humility and a sense of tomorrow, as according to him, whatever position anyone occupies is only temporary.

The governor gave the charge on Thursday, during the swearing-in of Honourable Justice Aderonke Aderemi as the president of the Customary Court of Appeal, Oyo State.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted Makinde as wishing Justice Aderemi a successful tenure, adding that he had no doubt she will use the new position to ensure that justice is served and in a timely manner.

The governor said: “It is my honour to have Honourable Justice Aderemi sworn in today as the president of the Customary Court of Appeal, Oyo State. So, I want to say congratulations to Your Lordship.


“This is a clear demonstration of the fact that here in Oyo State, we try to do what is right without any political or religious coloration or gender bias. If you look at all the justices here, they are women. If you also look at the first five officials of the government too, we have two women in there.

“That is how I really feel we should operate, because whatever position we are occupying is just temporary. I will leave my position as the governor of the state and your tenure will end one day, but I pray you will end well.

“I want to use you as a point of contact to officials and leaders occupying positions of authority to have that sense of humility and do what is right all the time. I don’t have any doubt that in your current position, not only will justice be served, it will be served in a timely manner. I wish you a successful tenure.”

While speaking with newsmen shortly after the swearing-in, Justice Aderemi expressed happiness, promising to put in her best to ensure speedy dispensation of justice.

“I feel happy today. I will put in my best as I have always done and continue to do my duty very well and timeously. I promise that cases will be attended to on time.
“My colleagues are working very hard and should continue to put in their best. We have backlog of cases and they will be ready to deal with these cases on time.

“To the Customary Court of Appeal, the issue of COVID-19 is a challenge because we have to find a way by which we are going to be sitting without feeling that we are not safe.

“Now, we are going to be scheming; we will be having a case at a time. We won’t be having too many lawyers in the court room or litigants as well so that we will be able to observe social distancing very well.

“On rape cases, we will first of all have to get to increase the jurisdiction of the Customary Court of Appeal before we can deal with rape cases. But you know what, as women judges, we have gone round the whole country, sensitising the people on what it means and the need to train our children.

“When you talk about rape, it could be the man or woman being raped. So, we take care of everybody. So, that is what I am going to do when we get there.”

Makinde Swears in 3 Permanent Secretaries, Civil Service Commission

…says it’s time to reform civil service

Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Thursday swore in three permanent secretaries and members of the state’s Civil Service Commission, declaring that the time to reform the service is now.

Governor Makinde, who also charged the newly appointed permanent secretaries and commission members to serve the state diligently in their new capacities, also stated that the jobs of the officials are well cut out for them in view of the enormous glaring need for reforms.

While performing the swearing-in of Mrs. Felicia Foluke Oyediran, Mrs. Adenike Modupe Olufadewa and Mrs. Foluke Olufemi Moradeyo as permanent secretaries, the governor said that his administration has shown gender sensitivity and respect for merit with their appointments.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the separate swearing-in ceremonies were held at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, with adherence to COVID-19 protocols on social distancing and wearing of face masks.

Governor Makinde at the two events, charged the permanent secretaries and the Oyo State Civil Service Commission to see their new appointments as a call to service, noting that service to the state should be of paramount importance.

He said: “I congratulate the new permanent secretaries. I want to say that you earned this position. You have shown dedication and commitment in your various work environments and you have paid your dues over the years as well.

“I think we should be applauded for being gender-sensitive. We don’t discriminate. If you earn your position and have put in hard work, there is no glass ceiling in Oyo State as far as gender is concerned.

“Out of the three of you, I know one of you personally. For the other two, we just met in the course of our work. What that means is, if you are known to me personally, it should not be a barrier for you to attain the position that you have earned. Even if you are not known to me, it is still the same thing.

“As an administration, we try our best to motivate the workforce and ensure we deliver on our mandate to the people of Oyo State. And I never asked anyone among the new permanent secretaries about their political inclination. What matters to me is that you are from Oyo State and you have served diligently to earn your position. So, I want to use you as a point of contact to those in the workforce and are hopeful that they will, one day, attain this position.

“Let me also warn that you still have to serve your time in that position and we will all live to meet outside of those positions. What is important is our service to the people of Oyo State and also making sure that our state is better in the course of our service. This is a call to service and I wish you all well.”

While addressing the five-man Oyo State Civil Service Commission including Alhaji Kamordeen Aderibigbe (chairman); Alhaji Kolapo Isiak Adewale; Mr. Olutoyin Adedeji Akanmu; Chief Solomon Ogunjimi and Pastor Taiwo Oluwagbemiro, Governor Makinde said he was confident the members of the commission were up to the task.

The governor, who maintained that the tasks ahead of the government, which the newly inaugurated commission must key into include civil service reform, training and retraining of the workforce as well as exploring e-governance, among others.

He said: “I want to congratulate the chairman and members of the Oyo State Civil Service Commission and I welcome you on board. The chairman taught me in primary 6 and, with this, I want to say that the rewards of teachers are no longer in heaven. If you put in hard work, you never know when your students will show up.

“We have confidence in you and we know you can do the work. As they were reading your brief citations, you notice that everybody observed that you have all seen the four walls of higher institutions. So, gone are the days when they say that only the backward people in the society are involved in politics.

“We can now see that we have bright people participating in politics. We want to keep that going within our political environment. We want more people who have the knowledge to come in and participate. We say politics is dirty but if we leave it with only the dirty people, then it cannot get better.

“You are coming on board at an auspicious time in our history. It is time for us to reform the civil service. You have to put in the hard work so you can have your work cut out for you. I do not entertain any shred of doubt that you have the capacity, competence and will to carry out the necessary reform in the Oyo State civil service.

“When we came in, I had several discussions with the Head of Service; the way promotions and welfare of the civil servants have been handled. To reform the civil service, we have to put in training and retraining of the civil servants. So, it is one area I believe you can make your mark and make sure that you push our agenda to bring more knowledge to the civil service.

“One other thing I want to mention is the issue of e-governance. We can put all infrastructure in place but if we don’t have people who can drive it, We have to reduce the paperwork to get our governance structure to go digital.

“This may be the last time we will be doing things manually. Some of the workers see computers as something meant for word processing, though I used to be like that in the past in the early 90s. But people do quite a lot of things there and that is important for the e-governance that we are looking at. So, I look forward to people like yourselves to champion all of these reforms, and you can rest assured that you will get the necessary support from the state government to pull this through.”

Makinde Appoints Arole as Chairman Oyo State Sports Council

Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has appointed a Chairman for the Oyo State Agriculture Credit Corporation, a Special Adviser on Inter-governmental Affairs and Northern States Liasion and a Special Assistanton Community Relations (Igbo community).

This was as the governor also approved the composition of Oyo State Sports Council, with a former chairman of Ibadan North-East LocalGovernment, Hon. Gbenga Adewusi (Arole) appointed as chairman of the council.

A statement signed by the Special Assistant (Print Media) to Governor Seyi Makinde, Moses Alao, made the announcement public on Thursday, quoting the governor as charging the new appointees to serve the state withdedication and loyalty.

A former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and House of Representatives, Honourable Afees Jimoh (Ona-Ara) was appointed as chairman of the state’s Agriculture Credit Corporation while Hon. Dooshiman Josephine Aneh and Barr. Ike Kingsley Ikechukwu were appointed Special Adviser on Inter-governmental Affairs and Northern States Liaison and Special Assistant onCommunity Relations (Igbo Community) respectively.

According to the statement, the following people were also constituted into the Oyo State Sports Council: Hon. Olugbenga Ayinde Adewusi(chairman); Mr. Bello Tajudeen Olufemi; Mr. Ogundele Quadri; Mr. Oguntoye Oluwaniyi Issac; Mr. Ogungbenro Fatai; Miss. Omolabake Alabi; Makinde Adegboyega (General Manager) and the Director, Policy Coordination, Governor’s Office.

Hon. Adewusi, who served as chairman of Ibadan North-EastLocal Government between 2003 and 2010, is a graduate of Human Kinetics from the University of Ibadan and a former Sports Trainer to President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He is the current chairman of the Oyo State Handball Association and has once served as the chairman of the state’s Badminton Association.

Hon. Jimoh, popularly known as Ona-Ara, was elected as the member representing Irepo/Olorunsogo Constituency in the House of Assembly between 2007 and 2011 and then member representing Irepo/Olorunsogo/Oorelope Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2011 and 2015.

He served as the Deputy Director-General of the PDP Campaignfor Oyo North Senatorial District in 2019.

The former lawmaker attended the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin; University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos; Federal University of Technology, Owerri and Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos where he obtained NCE Technical, HND, PGD and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical/Electronics and Computer Engineeringrespectively.

He worked with the Voice of Nigeria (VON) as a TechnicalOfficer for a decade and made a foray into politics.

The newly-appointed Special Adviser on IntergovernmentalAffairs, Hon. Aneh, attended the University of Jos, obtaining Advanced Diplomacertificates in Law, Security and Conflict Resolution while also currentlystudying for a B.Sc. in Sociology at the University of Abuja.The newly appointed Special Assistant on Community Relations (Igbo Community), Barr. Ikechuwku, obtained an LLB degree from Madonna University, Okija before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School.He hails from Umunneochi Local Government of Abia State.

RE: Senator Kolawole Balogun Caught on Hot Mic | Rotimi Johnson

The senator for Oyo South Senatorial district, Dr Mohammed Kola Balogun was caught on hot mic during Fresh FM’s Covid 19 situation room on Thursday 4th June, 2020 and I have heard and read many reactions to the incident and would want to set the record straight:

WHAT IS HOT MIC: a situation where a microphone that is turned on (either at event or studio), amplifies or broadcasts a spoken remark that was intended to be private.

IT WAS HOT MIC, NOT INTENTIONAL: Senator forgot that was the Situation room hour when he called to congratulate Mayor Isaac Brown who had his birthday yesterday. There was no reason to call into a live program but the intention to congratulate the ace presenter is clear.

HE WAS NOT AWARE AUXILIARY WAS IN THE STUDIO:

The Senator was not aware that the Guest, Chairman of Oyo State Park Managers System disciplinary committee was in the studio; Mayor Isaac Brown called his attention to it and had to say it more than once before the Senator understood Auxiliary is with Mayor in the Studio. Well, that Mayor and Auxiliary are in the studio doesn’t mean they are live.

HAILING AUXILIARY: The distinguished Senator commended the Chairman of the disciplinary committee of the PMS for defending the Governor and the party in an interview he had recently and we are not sorry about that because what Mr Mukaila also known as Auxilliary, an appointee of the state government did was truly commendable.

ON REFERENCE TO A THIRD PARTY: Senator Kola Balogun did not mention a particular name for the adjectives he used to describe the bearer but if he (the bearer) has unwittingly ascribed it to himself, we can’t say he is not what he calls himself. What Senator Kola Balogun meant is that such unscrupulous element is not a good representation of his true people who are hardworking men of integrity.. Though it was not meant to be live, distinguished Senator Kola Balogun has not said anything he can’t say to the bearer’s face, if needs be.

ON ISSUE OF IJESHA; The distinguished Senator has affinity for Ijeshas and other non-Ibadan people and would never hold them in contempt, not even privately, talkless of doing so on live program. Ijesha people work for what they earn and are of impeccable integrity. The program host is an Ijesha man and Senator’s partner and closest ally, with whom he owe many strides in this journey apart from Almighty God is also a proud Ijesha man too. That the bearer is not a good representation of these great people stands, though he would not have intended that for a live program.

WE DON’T WANT TO TRADE WORDS WITH ANYONE:
I know the Senator would not want to glorify these people with any response but there is need to set the record straight. We can still remember the roles they played during the last elections and how they worked against the same party they now claim to love so much. These are not the kind of persons who will tell the people if someone deserves to be Senator or not, we know their antecedents. We know how they met with opposition candidate, collected gratifications and declared the public should not vote for Senator Kola Balogun. That I was worried about this development then is an understatement but Senator Balogun insisted no one should respond to it; that God would do what He plans to do and indeed, God distinguished Senator Kola Balogun with His grace and disgraced his distractors completely, even legally, to the Supreme Court. When God says yes, nobody can say no.

ON AUXILIARY: The Chairman of the park manager’s disciplinary committee is has the prerogative to declare his loyalty and defend someone whom he publicly affirmed has reformed him. Personally, respect Auxiliary more after hearing him speak on the program; he made very good clarification to the best of his understanding.

Our indefatigable leader and the Governor of Oyo State would attend to any party member who feels disenfranchised but how and when he intends to achieve that is not for the public; we shouldn’t spread our linen (if at all dirty) in the Sun. We are party loyalists and it’s different from just being party members.

The commitment of Senator Kola Balogun to the good people of Oyo South is sacrosanct and we can’t be distracted by any one.

The Oyo State Government has appointed Dr Uwom Eze,  a Forensic Pathologist with the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan as the Chairman of the State Committee on Management of the Dead (MotD). 

The Secretary to the Government of Oyo State, Mrs. Adebamiwo Adeosun did the formal inauguration of the Committee on behalf of the Governor of the State, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

The MotD Committee within the Ministry of Health, and in collaboration with other relevant ministries and agencies, especially the Ministry of Justice and the Police, will operationalise the Oyo State Coroners’ Law 2018 accordingly, in line with the mandate contained therein.  

All aspects of Management of the Dead including forensic death investigation, MotD following any disasters, appropriate death certification in all health facilities within the State, standard mortuary practice, training of personnel in the MotD, public education/enlightenment, Family and Community Liaison services on MotD, standard burial practices, and other matters related to the dead, will be addressed. 

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo on behalf of  UCH Management congratulates Dr. Eze on his appointment, and extends his goodwill of support to him and other members of the Committee.

As at the close of business on Wednesday, 3rd June, 2020, the hospital did not have new or confirmed case of COVID 19.

The University College Hospital, Ibadan has been playing the leading role in combating the spread of the coronavirus, and will continue to render excellent care and services to all our patients. The Hospital equally enjoins everyone to adhere to the required infection prevention and control measures prescribed by the WHO and the NCDC, such as physical distancing, regular hand washing, use of hand sanitizers & face masks. We will continue to update the public accordingly.

#JusticeforBarakat: Folarin Condemns Ibadan Student’s Murder, Promises to Seek Justice for the victim

The Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Oloye Teslim Folarin, has expressed rude shock over alleged rape and gruesome killing of a constituent, Miss. Bello Barakat, a student of Institute of Agriculture, Research and Training, Moor Plantation Ibadan, Oyo State. He therefore called on relevant security agencies to speedily investigate the crimes with a view to bringing the culprits to book in order to serve as a deterrent to others.

On Monday June 1, 2020, Barakat was allegedly attacked by unknown person(s) who stabbed her to death at the back of the home she shared with her family in Akinyele area of Ibadan by criminal(s) who suspected robbers. The 19 year-old victim was described by family friends as nice and easy-going girl. Her rape and murder is the latest in a string of high-profile sexual crimes that have gained national outrage.

Senator Folarin, in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Com. YSO Olaniyi, described the incident as horrific, barbaric and shocking.

The statement reads: “I was shocked to receive the news of Miss Bello Barakat being gang-raped and subsequently murdered by the agents of darkness. I am deeply concerned about increasing cases of rape and brutality against the girl child in Nigeria. Baraka’s gruesome killing is a one death too many, therefore the nonsensical act of raping must stop in Nigeria”

“The rape and murder of Barakat is nothing short of horrific. I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim. As the Senator representing Akinyele and other ten local government areas of Oyo Central, I will seek justice for late Barakat Bello. By God’s Grace, I will ensure that all the culprits responsible for this barbaric act are swiftly brought to justice.”

Oloye Folarin while expressing his worries over high rate of crimes in Oyo State, called on the Deputy Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), to ensure speedy and thorough investigation on the case.

The former senate leader has directed his team to pay condolence visit to the bereaved family pending his arrival from Abuja. “I will personally visit the bereaved family. I have commenced seeking justice for Barakat right here in Abuja; I am already reaching out to the top echelons of Nigeria security agencies. I assure late Barakat’s family my full supports in this trying time” Folarin stressed.

Barakat’s death came in the wake of the rape and murder of Uwa, a 22-year-old student of the University of Benin, on May 27, 2020. Also, it will be recalled that the 2years old twins of Ibadan-based Islamic scholar were kidnapped in Akinyele LGA sometimes in May.

Monarch: Success of Makinde’s govt priority to Saki indigenes

A paramount traditional ruler in Oyo State, who also is the Vice Chairman of the state Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi, Oyedepo lll, the Okere of Sakiland, has described the administration of Engr Seyi Makinde as the project of Sakiland, which must be given priority by all the indigenes of Sakiland.
The monarch made the statement when the Coalition of Grassroots Volunteers Against Covid-19 (COGVAC-19) paid homage to him at his palace. The COGVAC-19 team led by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mrs. Funmilayo Orisadeyi was at the palace for the kick-off t of the campaign against the novel Coronavirus pandemic at Oke-Ogun 2.
 
The royal father in his response shortly after the campaign programme, commended governor Seyi Makinde for adopting good approach to tackle the spread of Covid-19 in the state. He also praised the humility of the Honourable Commissioner and shower encomium on the COGVAC-19 team for a brilliant job.
“It’s an opportunity for us to benefit from this great project, it’s quite different from others programme brought here on Covid-19 by various groups.  We are really appreciative of government concern for our people,” Oba Olabisi stated
“We say a big thank you to the people’s governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for all his efforts to protect our people from contacting this horrible virus. The governor has also sited isolation center here in Saki and work is ongoing. The centre is 100 beds capacity hospital, owned by the state government.
Kabiyesi confirmed the receipt of palliatives from the state government and described it has a good gesture towards the masses. He commended government on it.
“The governor had sent palliatives here, in actual fact, I chaired one of the occasion where it was shared. It was fair enough for each family, so, on palliative the government has tried. Like Oliver Twist, we are expecting more of it,” Kabiyesi confirmed
Before the arrival of government palliatives in Sakiland, Oba Olabisi had personally funded the purchase of food items, other domestic needs and preventive materials including, branded face masks, soap and sanitisers. All the purchased items were distributed to the people through Saki Parliament, formed by about 174 quarters. Each Quarter has two representative through which parliament reach out to every members of each Quarter. No one was left out in the sharing, it was effectively shared.
“Your visit to Saki today is very timely, celebration of his Excellency’s one year in office is on going and the people of Saki are part of it. Engineer Seyi Makinde is our project and the success of his administration is a topmost priority for the Indigenes of Sakiland. We believe in this government and will give all to support it.
“Like I said, it’s our government, we have suffered in the past, most of the projects you see around were carried out by sons and daughters of Saki. Saki is a self-developed town, we lack social amenities, it’s quite unfortunate. Our roads are bad, though some already awarded, we have given our needs and bill of demand to the government. Now that we have people’s governor in charge of the state, we believe great things will start coming our ways.
“There’s a road from here to border, it’s about 94 kilometres, but terribly bad. It could take a whole day to get there. It’s the only road that linked Saki to Benin Republic. We pray our governor consider it among the road to be rehabilitated, it will surely increase the state IGR and grow the economy. We also asked the governor to site an eye clinic here in Saki because there is non in Oke-Ogun and as a result, our people have to travel out of the country for eye treatment or visit Ibadan.
“The Honourable Commissioner, you are an outstanding ambassador to the administration of Engr. Seyi Makinde. Many top government have visited us in Saki, your humility is exceptional and great, no wonder the local government councils chairmen and ALGIO are revolving round you. Truly, you are a mother. We thank you so much for the visit,” Kabiyesi commended the Commissioner.
 
The Commissioner, in her speech, commended the royal father for playing a great role in providing for the needs of the people in his domain. She also assured the royal father of Makinde commitment to make great changes in Saki and its environs.
“Kabiyesi, you have proved to the people of Sakiland that they have a worthy King and to the great people of Oyo State in general that the role of a royal father is beyond playing a mediator role or collecting royalty. You have distinguished yourself as a true father, a ruler born with milk of human kindness.
“With what we met on ground you have really helped the government at both levels in the state. Your personal palliatives to the people of the state as well as materials to prevent people from contacting the stubborn virus are highly commendable and worthy of trumpeting around the four corners of the state.
“Kabiyesi, I want to assure you sir, that his Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde will do great projects here in Saki to boost the economy of this area and make it enviable one. Welfare of the people in Saki as well as infrastructure will equally be considered. Our administration needs more support from our people here and we promise to reciprocate.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner, commended the efforts of the ALGIO in setting up the Coalition and moving from one local government to another to safe lives.
“This is excellent, in my first outing with this group I can say I’m convinced that this actually is the real information dissemination. Coming down to the level of the people and being able to apply different approach to the campaign exercise based on the level of people they are addressing. They are truly professionals and best to reach out to the people in the rural, interior and suburb areas.
“Talking about civil matter, you can’t compare the approach of well trained policemen with that of soldiers who are trained for war. Same thing apply here, the ALGIO members understand nook and crannies of each local government councils and LCDAs and they are using the same opportunity to take the sensitisation campaign to their people in those areas.
The Commissioner advised the people in Saki and its environs to adhere strictly to the information as contained in the campaign. She also promised to communicate the activities of the group to governor Makinde.
“My appeal goes to the people of Saki and other towns and villages around to keep observing every precautionary measures as listed to them today. I have listened and can assure you, this is the best and current update on prevention and protection against Covid-19.
“To my people, it’s a great privilege to be in your team today, in fact it’s an eye opener, the Lord will continue to strengthen and bless you as you’re spending from your limited income to cater for other people. I will give your message to his excellency and I’m sure he will surely support you.
Those in the Coalition of Grassroots Volunteers Against Covid-19 (COGVAC-19) team are the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Bayo Titilola-Sodo, the Chairman of ALGIO in the state, Comrade Kunle Kareem, the consultant, Comrade Adebowale Adeoye, a member of Advisory Council, Comrade (Alhaji) Khalid Ajibade, State Asst. Sec. NUJ Comrade Dauda Aderogba, ALGIO State Secretary, Comrade Ramat Alade.

Oyo Records No Fresh Case of COVID-19 on Wednesday, Nigeria cases hit 11166

Oyo State, for the first time in the last 30 days, recorded no fresh case of COVID-19 on Wednesday, which means the total number of confirmed cases in the state remain 317. The agency said 348 new confirmed cases and 1 death were recorded in Nigeria bringing the total confirmed cases recorded in the country to 11,166.

The new active cases were revealed in the routine update released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) late Monday.

According to NCDC, 11166 cases have been confirmed, 3329 cases have been discharged and 315 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory having carried out 69,801 tests.

Folarin Pays Tribute to Ace Broadcaster, Isaac Brown

The Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Oloye Teslim Folarin, has commended ace broadcaster, Mr. Mayor Isaac Brown, for his contributions to good governance in Oyo State and Nigeria.

Mr. Mayor Isaac Brown and former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala celebrate their birthday anniversaries today, June 3rd 2020.

Oloye Folarin, in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Com. YSO Olaniyi, described the ace broadcaster as very passionate about quality leadership, good governance, a democracy that delivers dividends and a society that is just.

The former senate leader said, “Mayor’s consistency and forthrightness in speaking and writing the truth to authorities deserve special commendation, especially the many times he placed his life at risk in fighting for democracy and the institutionalization of good governance in Oyo State and Nigeria at large”.

“Thank you for always being an inspiration, source of encouragement and advice. May God Almighty grant you (Mayor) more years, robust health and strength to continue to advance the cause of journalism, democracy and good governance,” he said.

Isaac Brown, for years, anchored several TV and beauty shows, including the popular Gotham City on Galaxy TV. He had also worked at Star FM, MiTV and Ibadan Business Radio (IBR) before joining Fresh FM Ibadan in July 2017.
