Meet Oyo-born Diplomat Appointed as Ambassador by Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated an indigene of the ancient town of Oyo, Mr Victor Adekunle Adeleke, a lawyer as ambassador-designate.

The nomination was contained in a letter he addressed to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, requesting the confirmation of 42 nominees as career ambassadors.

The president’s letter, dated May 6, 2020, was read at the beginning of plenary on Tuesday by Lawan.

The letter reads: “In accordance to section 171 (1),(2)(c) & sub-section (4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I have the honour to forward for confirmation by the Senate, the underlisted 42 names of nominees as Career Ambassadors-Designate. Copies of their Curriculum Vitae are attached herewith.”

The Oyo State Ambassadorial nominee attended Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo between 1978 to 83.

He was Captain of the Olivet Football Team in 1985 during his HSC. He was also an Oyo State High School Lawn Tennis Champion during his secondary school days.

Barrister Victor is an Obafemi Awolowo University trained lawyer, served as the State House Chief of Protocol under late President Umaru Yar’Adua. He has, at various times served as a career diplomat to People’s Republic of China, Brazil, Poland, UK and he is the Acting Ambassador, Deputy Head of Mission/Head of Chancery in Nigeria’s Diplomatic Mission at Vienna, Austria and Dublin, Ireland.

Kunle, is the first son of the foremost educationist and seasoned administrator, founding principal of Isale-Oyo Community Grammar School, St. Bernardine’s Grammar school and Ladigbolu Grammar school, Sir Anthony Ayoola Adeleke.

The Oyo-born career diplomat is happily married with children. He is a specialist in international Law and Diplomacy. He is a former footballer and Lawn Tennis player. A quiet and unassuming achiever with great love for his community.

COVID-19: Oyo Cases Rise to 69. •51 Patients on Admission

Oyo State recorded four new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections to 69. Despite the little spike, the state maintains its 14th position on the national COVID-19 log.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday, Oyo State recorded four fresh cases of COVID-19 out 146 cases recorded in Federal Capital Territory and nineteen states.

Data obtained by the Pacesetter News from the NCDC website show that: 28, 418 Samples Tested so far; Confirmed Cases stands at 4,787; Active Cases is 3,670; Discharged Cases 959; and 158 Deaths have been recorded across the country.

Further check by the Pacesetter News revealed that Oyo State has 51 confirmed cases on admission at various isolation centres.

The following is the breakdown of the 146 new cases as at 11.54pm, Wednesday 12th May 2020.

COVID-19: Makinde Confirms Fresh Cases in Oyo. •Three Patients Discharged

Oyo State has recorded two fresh cases of COVID-19 in two local government areas, bring the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 67.

On his official facebook account, the governor posted, “Three confirmed COVID-19 patients have received their second NEGATIVE test results and have been discharged. This brings the number of discharged cases in Oyo State to seventeen”.

“Also, the COVID-19 confirmation tests for two suspected cases came back POSITIVE. One case in Ibadan North and one case in Ibadan North West. So, the total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State as at 8 PM today, is sixty-seven”.

No Agenda to Impeach Makinde and his deputy – Assembly Declares

The Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday said none of its members contemplated any move to impeach either the governor or his deputy, contrary to media reports flying around.

Laying the impeachment speculation to rest, Honourable Akintunde Olajide representing
Lagelu state constituency moved a motion on Vote of Confidence on Governor Seyi Makinde and his Deputy, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan; and seconded by his colleague from Oyo East/Oyo West Stste constituency, Honourable Isiaka Kazeem. The motion was unanimously adopted by all the members.

Lending his voice to voice to the motion, majority leader, Honourable Sanjo Adedoyin said the Assembly was solidly behind Makinde and all the current administration was doing.

The leader of legislators on the platform of AllOl Progressivs Congress (APC), Rt. Hon. Asimiyu Niran Alarape, while supporting the vote of confidence on Makinde, said there is the need for the thirty-two members to speak out their immense supports for Governor Makinde and his Deputy. The Minority Leader emphasized that it was high time all the lawmakers made public their support for the Makinde government, irrespective of political parties.

The Speaker of the house, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, in his remarks said all members, regardless of party lines, were on the same page on the vote of confidence.

SECURITY: Gov. Makinde Appoints Retired Colonel as DG Operation Burst

Governor Seyi Makinde has announced retired Colonel Oladipo Ajibola as Director-General of Oyo State Joint Security Task Force, codename, Operation Burst.
The state-sponsored security outfit was established in 2013 and re-launched in 2017 by the immediate past Governor Abiola Ajimobi. Operation Burst comprises officers of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Engr. Makinde, on Tuesday, made the announcement through his aide.
In the statement signed by the Special Assistant (Print Media) to the governor, Moses Alao, “Governor Makinde tasked Col. Oladipo (retd), to deploy his wealth of experience in the military and security services to leading the Operation Burst in collaborating with other security agencies to achieve the administration’s objective of a secured Oyo State”.
Col. Oladipo (retd) holds a Diploma in Education from the University of Ibadan as well as Diplomas in Administration and Special Operations from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration and the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center, Fort. Bragg NC. United States of America.
Before his retirement, Col. Oladipo (retd) took part in different national and international assignments including being deployed to Angola as Military Observer and Military Assistant to CMO in 1993; leading the five Nation Military Security Assessment to Liberia and serving as the Commanding Officer NIBATT 7, UNAMSIL-Sierra Leone in 2001-2002.
He also served as Chief Instructor, Depot Nigerian Army; Chief of Staff-HQ1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna and Commander/Nigerian Contingent Commander Africa Mission in Sudan.
Outside the military, he has also served in different capacities as General Manager, EXL Security & Protection Services LTD; Assistant General Manager, Aviation Security, FAAN and Managing Director, Glosat Security Services LTD.

1. Prof. Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, lCFR is 75years old (born November 24, 1944).

3. Gambari attended King’s College, Lagos. He subsequently attended the London School of Economics where he obtained his B. Sc. (Economics) degree (1968) with specialisation in International Relations. He later obtained his M.A. (1970) and Ph. D. COVID-19: Senate Directs Security Agencies to Enforce Presidential Orders

Alarmed that confirmed daily cases of COVID-19 by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is now in hundreds; the Nigerian Senate, on Tuesday, has condemned in strongest terms the barefaced breach of the presidential order on interstate movements.

The Senate directed the Inspector-Genral of Police, and Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to fully enforce presidential orders on curfew and ban on non-essential interstate travel. The red chamber enjoined Nigerians to strictly comply with these orders for their own safety and to quicken the nation’s victory over the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a motion titled “Need to enforce Presidential Order banning interstate movement” by Senator Ike Ekweremadu of Enugu West senatorial district, the former deputy senate president said the motion is in response to an alarm raised by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 that there is increase level of Inter-state movements, worsened by the dubious concealment of people in food-carrying vehicles”

Ekweremadu said the nation’s security agencies, particularly the police, have the responsibility to enforce law and order, including the presidential ban on interstate movement. The senator is worried about reports of alleged complicity in the said breaches by those who are supposed to enforce compliance with the directives of the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Senator Sabi Abdullahi in his contribution said the bill is very timely because the issue of Coronavirus is not being given the seriousness it deserves by some. He said while some states are doing their best, some states are not serious at all. He called for appeal to all Nigerians to take the matter seriously because corona virus is already with us and is spreading fast through community transmission.

Senator Stella Oduah on her part said the motion is a very wonderful one and asked that all law enforcement agencies strengthen their border patrol exercise to check the movement of people. She said may be the senate should write to the Inspector General of Police to inform him of the standing law restricting movement if he is not already aware.

In his remarks, Senate President Ahmad Lawan said there is the need for the total enforcement on the ban on interstate travels as it is a serious matter.

He said beyond the ban however is the need to also ensure hygiene and other measures to prevent the spread of Covid19.

COVID-19: FG Announces States to Participate in Drugs Trials

Four drugs that could help treat coronavirus are to be trialled on patients in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos, Ogun, Kaduna, Sokoto and Kano States.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, stated this on Monday, during the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19. According Osagie, “FCT, Lagos, Ogun, Kaduna, Sokoto and Kano States, have enrolled on the World Health Organisation (WHO) treatment regimen on solidarity drug trials.”

Dr Fiona Braka, WHO Nigeria Officer in Charge (OiC) and member of the PTF on COVID-19, said the four drugs that will be monitored in the solidarity trial are Remdesivir; Chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine; Lopinavir, and Ritonavir.

An official  report as at Monday 11th May 2020 put Nigeria’s total number of confirmed cases at 4641 with 902 healed patients discharged; 150 deaths were recorded across the country.

Oyo State maintains its 14th position on the national COVID-19 log with 65 confirmed cases.

El-Rufai: I’m Secretary; Osinbajo is Chairman of Short People

The Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, has said the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is the Chairman of Nigerian Association of Short People.

El-Rufai hilariously made the announcement via his verified Twitter account, @elrufai, in response to a throwback video posted on Twitter by famous On-Air-Personality, Mr. Olateju Oyelakin (Teju Babyface). The Ogbomoso-born comedian shared a 1.34mins video of Governor El-Rufai featuring on Babyface’s show in 2010.

Babyface via his Twitter handle, @tejubabyfacetv, wrote “I AM A MEMBER OF THE NIGERIAN ASSOCIATION OF SHORT PEOPLE! @nelrufai is a self deprecating character 😃. Sir, I am taller than you o. Hian!

COVID-19: Oyo to add 214-bed Spaces. •As Makinde Confirms N250m Donation…

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced that the state government is set to add another 214-Bed spaces across the isolation centres in the state.

Governor Makinde disclosed this yesterday at exactly 11.03pm via his verified Twitter handle @seyimakinde. According to the tweet, “We are working to increase the capacity of our isolation centres by adding a 100-bed isolation centre in Saki, 40-bed isolation centre in Ogbomoso, 40-bed isolation centre in Igboora, and another 24-bed isolation centre in Aawe near Oyo Town. We are also renovating the 10-bed isolation centre at Agbami Chest Centre, Jericho.”

The Pacesetter News understands that Oyo State Government’s move to increase the capacities of the isolation centres is in response to the lamentation by the director-general of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), who said no state in the country has enough bed spaces for COVID-19 patients.

Engr. Makinde also confirmed his administration had received N250m donation from Nigeria’s private sector leaders to combat the COVID-19 crisis in the state The governor in another tweet, said “he Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) donated N250 Million to Oyo State – N220 Million for equipment and N30 Million for renovation of our isolation centres. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is also supporting our state with N100 Million. We are grateful to CACOVID and NCDC for the support”.

Having recorded a fresh confirmed case of COVID-19 on Monday, Oyo State total confirmed cases now stand at 65. Despite the increase, Oyo State maintains its 14th position on the Nigeria COVID-19 log.

COVID-19: Oyo Records One Confirmed Case; Maintains 14th Position on the Log

The Oyo State Government has confirmed one new case of coronavirus. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 65.

Confirming the new case, Governor Seyi Makinde in his official facebook page, wrote “the COVID-19 confirmation test for one suspected case came back POSITIVE. The case is from Ibadan South West Local Government Area. So, the total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State as at 8 PM today, is sixty-five”.

Meanwhile, the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria has continued to rise rapidly as the latest statistics provided by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) revealed Nigeria now has 4,641 confirmed cases.

On Monday, 11th of May 2020, 242 new confirmed cases and 10 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. To date, 4641 cases have been confirmed, 902 cases have been discharged and 150 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The 242 new cases are reported from 14 states- Lagos (88), Kano (64), Katsina (49), Kaduna (13), Ogun (9), Gombe (6), Adamawa (4), FCT (3), Ondo (1), Oyo (1), Rivers (1), Zamfara (1), Borno (1), Bauchi (1).

Moniya Inferno: Gov. Makinde to Rebuild Razed Shops. •Allocates New Shops to Old Owners

Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Monday, visited the scene of the fire incident that razed some shops at Moniya, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Friday.
The governor, who was accompanied by the chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Hon. Hon. Taoheed Adedigba and the Chairman, State Advisory Council, Senator Hosea Agboola, among other top government functionaries, told a gathering of shop owners that the Caretaker Chairman, Hon. Adedigba, had been directed to re-build the shops that were gutted by fire.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that Makinde, while commiserating with the victims of the Moniya inferno, pledged to allocate the new shops to the old owners when completed.
“The local government will rebuild the shops here and after they are done, they will allocate the new shops to those whose shops were burnt,” he said.
The governor also described the inferno as an unfortunate and a heartbreaking incident, further assuring that the State Government would find ways of assisting the victims that were affected by the inferno so as to cushion the effects of the terrible incident.
He said: “I want to assure you that they will prepare a list, take down your names and we will, as a matter of urgency, see what we can do immediately to cushion the effect of the terrible fire incident.
“We are not mocking those who lost their lives to the fire incident but we must understand the fact that we need to be thankful in every situation. God understands whatever happens to a man, whether good or bad.
“I understand what you must be going through, especially in a moment like this. Please, I urge you to wipe your tears.”

Shittu Explodes: Ignore Ajimobi’s aide tantrums, nobody can chase me out of APC

The former minister of communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu, has strongly reacted to the statement made by the Oyo North senatorial district youth leader of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Mr. Dauda Ajana, that no individual would lose sleep over alleged persistent attacks against the APC and its leaders from him.

Ajana said the ex-minister has ceased to be a member of Oyo APC since his faction broke away in 2018 while he (Shittu) also went ahead to work against all the candidates fielded by the party in the 2019 general election.

Barrister Shittu in a telephone chat with the Pacesetter News on Monday evening, described Dauda Ajana as a puppet of Ajimobi’s SENACO faction of Oyo APC.

According to former Minister, “Ajana is simply stupid. The statement is baseless and ought to be ignored by right thinking members of our party. What or who could have driven me out of APC, of which I am a foundation member. The truth is that I am not and would never belong to the SENACO faction of our party. Rather, I belong to the Unity Forum faction of our Party; a faction, which was formed to liberate ourselves from the oppression, marginalisation, dictatorship and undemocratic practices of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi who was leader of our party in the State.”

“If indeed, I had left APC, why would a delegation of Oyo APC Local Government Chairmen’s Forum visit me in my Mokola, Ibadan Chambers to seek means of reconciliation of all the factions within Oyo APC? I received them in my office barely a week ago. Of course, I gave them the preconditions for the return of the Unity Forum” he said.

The Saki-born politician therefore urged the general public to ignore the tantrums of Dauda Ajana, who he tagged a jobless political hustler. “He is throwing tantrums to please his paymasters. The young man is completely inconsequential in the affairs and possible resolution of the crisis in Oyo APC” Shittu concluded.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III received the twins of Ibadan-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Taofeek Akeugbagold in his palace earlier today.

The visit is coming 9 days after the twins were released by their abductors. The first class monarch spent time to feed and play with the young twins.

Taiwo and Kehinde were abducted around 8pm on Saturday, April 25, while their father was in a studio for a Ramadan recording. The twins, according to the cleric, were born after his wife and himself had endured a 12-year delay.

BREAKING: UK Govt Set Date for Return of Premier League

As part of an official roadmap, the UK government have announced that sporting events may return behind closed doors from June 1, with fans only being allowed back in ‘significantly later’.

The government and UK’s top football police officer have suggested that games should be played in neutral venues but that plan was opposed by many relegation-threatened clubs.

In his reaction, Premier League chief executive Richard Masters says it is the preference of all of clubs to play at home and away if possible.

“It’s clear to see that some clubs feel more strongly about that than others. It is an ongoing dialogue and we’ve been talking to the authorities about the conditions in which we could get the Premier League back up and running and taking all that advice on board.

“We are working flat out to create a responsible, safe, and deliverable model to complete the season.

“No decisions will be made until after we have talked to players and managers and those meetings are scheduled for later this week” Masters said.

Elite football in Britain has been suspended since March 13, with Leicester’s 4-0 win over Aston Villa on March 9 the last Premier League fixture played and Liverpool’s Champions League exit at the hands of Atletico Madrid on March 11 the most recent elite fixture in England.
