Sharafadeen Alli Tasks Fasting Muslims to Pray for Economic Buoyance of Oyo

The gubernatorial candidate of the Zenith Labour Party in the recently concluded 2019 election in Oyo state, Alhaji Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, on Monday tasked fasting Muslims in the state to use the opportunity of the holy month to pray for the economic rejuvenation of the state.

 

Alli, a former Secretary to the State Government in a Ramadan message personally signed by him to the Muslims in the state, appealed to them to pray fervently for a greater Oyo state, where quality of lives will be in abundance.

 

Alli, a member of the coalition political parties that berthed the incoming administration of Engr. Seyi Makinde also called for prayers for peace, security, and understanding among the political class to lift the fortune of the people of the state across Ibadan, Ibarapa, Oyo, Ogbomoso and Oke Ogun areas.

 

“The next phase is for us to use the opportunity of this Ramadan to pray for the forgiveness of all our sins and for the political class to lift the masses out of poverty, want and deprivation. We must pray and be ready to work, to meet the demands of the populace.

 

“As a firm believer in Allah’s unending love and mercy, I know that all our prayers for the good of our society will be answered. Lets us make economic buoyance of our dear state, our number one prayer point, in this Ramadan. May Allah (SWT) accept all our supplications,” Alli added.

Ajimobi Distributes Ramadan Gifts to Widows, Homes

Wife of the Oyo state Governor, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi on Monday distributed trailer loads of rice, milk, and other Ramadan welfare materials to children homes, widows and others from across the 33 Local Governments and 35 Local Council Development areas in the state. 
The event attended by hundreds of widows, women in the All Progressives Congress and children from less privileged homes, was held at the Agodi government house, tennis court, Ibadan.
Mrs. Ajimobi who was full of praises to God for the grace of witnessing another Ramadan, urged all to use the opportunity of the holy month to ask for the forgiveness of their sins and greater Oyo state.
She called for loyalty of women to the APC, saying another four years would soon be around to return the party back ‘to government’s house by the grace of God by 2023.’
Mrs. Ajimobi appealed to the women to be steadfast and support the party especially the leaders, in their quest to reposition the party ahead of the next elections.
She assured them that by next Ramadan, she would again distribute items to them at their (Ajimobis) private residence in Oluyole.
Mrs. Ajimobi said the governor provided means for the welfare packages, calling on women and the benefitting homes, to accept them in good faith.
APC women leader in the state, Mrs. Mabel Williams and Olaoluwa Tolani from the ABC homes thanked the Ajimobis for the items.

Akinremi Lauds colleagues’ Support for Southwest, Gbajabiamila

The Southwest coordinator for the newly elected House of Representatives’ members, Musiliudeen Olaide Akinremi has lauded multiparty support for the aspiration of the current majority leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, to clinch the speakership of the ninth National Assembly.

Akinremi, who was among the 178 Reps-elect who had a marathon meeting with Gbajabiamila and endorsed him on Thursday, said, “the action of the lawmakers from across political divide is a democracy in action”.

The elected member from Ibadan North federal constituency area of Oyo state, who was part of the Gbajabiamila’s delegation to the lesser hajj (Umrah) in Saudi Arabia, few days ago, stressed the need for all “the Southwest Reps-elect to enlist support for Gbajabiamila.”

Akinremi in a telephone chat with journalists on Friday, said the current support being enjoyed by Gbajabiamila from lawmakers in the APC; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); Action Alliance (AA); Action Democratic Party (ADP); and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), had shown that the ninth Assembly would be purposeful “as we are eager to consolidate the gains of lawmaking business, in an atmosphere of peace”.

While appealing to other aspirants from the Southwest and other zones to step down their ambitions and work for the emergence of Gbajabiamila, Akinremi said, “the Lagos lawmaker has all it takes to lead the house successfully for the next four years.”

According to him, “apart from being a firth term lawmaker, Gbajabiamila is most qualified in terms of pedigree, competence and experience needed to lead other 359 house members, to ensure we achieve the dream of every member”.

He also lauded the outgoing speaker of the Akwa Ibom house of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Omofiok Luke, and others for believing in the struggle of Gbajabiamila and by extension, Southwest Nigeria to lead the house for quality lawmaking business and for the consolidation of democratic dividends under President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

NULGE President in Oyo, Titilola-Sodo Emerges NLC Chairman

A serving President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Oyo state chapter, Alhaji Bayo Titilola-Sodo has emerged newly elected Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the state chapter.
In his message to Oyo workers, Titilola-Sodo declared that there was no excuse for any state governor not to implement the N30,000 minimum wage with immediate effect.
He made the declaration while speaking with Journalists immediately after he was declared winner of the election at the NLC delegates conference held at Adamasingba stadium, Ibadan, the state capital.
Titilola-Sodo explained that the payment of minimum wage became a law, bidding on all the 36 state governors which needs no persuasion before the implementation particularly in the state.
According to him, “the implementation of the N30,000 minimum wages should be implemented immediately without further delay. The President has signed it, it is a law and the law is bidding on all the 36 state governors.
“It is a law, it requires no persuasion, it covers all the states of the federation. The outgoing governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi promised to pay N30,000 minimum wage, the governor-elect, Engr. Seyi Makinde also promised us even before the election. So we would hold both of them to their words”.
Speaking on what to expect from the newly elected executives of the NLC in the next three years, Titilola-Sodo said “a situation where workers are paid their salaries as at when due, a situation where workers enjoy their benefits as and when due.
“A situation where nepotism and favouritism are not allowed, a situation where workers are not victimised, where justice prevails; where sanity is brought into the system unlike the present situation”.
Other elected executives are Adedeji Taofeek, vice chairman 1; Martins Bayonle, vice chairman 2; Rukayat Afonja, chairperson; Ademola Babalola, Treasurer; Oladele Olusegun and Folorunsho Olujimi, auditor 1 and 2 respectively.

Ajimobi Inaugurates Joint Transition Committee Ahead May 29 Handing-Over Date

Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has inaugurated the first joint transition committee in the history of the state, which is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring a smooth transition from the incumbent to the Governor-elect, Mr Seyi Makinde.

The 27-member committee, comprising 17 from the government and 10 from the incoming administration, was inaugurated at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Ibadan, on Thursday.

Part of the terms of reference of the committee was to evolve a seamless framework for the change of baton, as well as to organize a befitting handing-over ceremony.

In his address at the occasion, Ajimobi admonished the committee members to place the interest of the state and its citizens above other narrow interests by emulating the existing cordiality between himself and Makinde.

Ajimobi emphasized that the event should not be seen as a mere stunt targeted at making history, but should be regarded as a deliberate step to promote the tenets of politics without bitterness.

The governor said, “We make history today again as the first administration in the history of Oyo State in which the governor will inaugurate a transition committee comprising representatives of the incumbent and incoming administrations.

“Consequently, today’s event is another ‘Koseleri’ (unprecedented) in the annals of the history of our dear state. It is also pertinent to note that for the first time in the history of Oyo State, an incumbent governor formally received in audience a governor-elect (Makinde).

“These, for us, are not just stunts for making history, but a demonstration of true tenets of democracy, good governance, politics without bitterness and the ‘Ajumose’ spirit of collective responsibility.

“The governor-elect, upon my request, forwarded a list of nominees to government and I have no doubt in my mind that members of his team are men and women capable of implementing a smooth transition from one government to another.”

Ajimobi expressed the hope that future administration would take a cue from his gesture by sustaining such a collaborative spirit and not make the event a ‘Koselemo’ (forbidden).

He urged the incoming administration to raise the bar on delivery of good governance like he successfully did through his administration’s restoration, transformation and repositioning agenda.

According to him, the cutting-edge agenda, which began with the restoration of peace and security to the state, provided a solid foundation for the state’s massive infrastructural revolution, innovative and result-oriented approach to education, empowerment programmes, pragmatic healthcare delivery and improved agro-business and enhanced value-chain addition in agriculture, among others, bore true testimonies to his administration success story.

Representatives of committee from the government include Secretary to the State Government, Mr Olalekan Alli (Chairman); Head of Service, Mrs Hannah Ogunesan; Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Seun Abimbola; Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Toye Arulogun; and Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Chief Isaac Ishola.

Others include Commissioner for Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, Prince Oyewole Oyewumi; Commissioner for Health, Dr Azeez Adeduntan; Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Survey, Mr Isaac Omodewu;

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr Abimbola Kolade; Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Adeniyi Olowofela; Commissioner for Finance, Mr Abimbola Adekanmbi; and Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr Wasiu Dauda.

 

Also on the list are the Special Adviser, Economic Planning and Budget, Dr Isiaka Kolawole; Special Adviser, Efficiency Unit, Dr Isaac Ayandele; Special Adviser, Security, Mr Segun Bolarinwa; Executive Assistant, Administration, Mr Soji Eniade; and Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Mr David Olatunde,  who will serve as the Secretary.

Mogaji Sues Ibadan Chief Imam over Akere Mosque Leader

The family head of Beyioku Akere family, Mogaji Moshood Gbolagade has filed a suit before an Oyo state high court against the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdulganiy Agbotomokekere over the turbaning of Alfa Sulaiman Yusuf as the Imam of Akere mosque, Oritamerin, Ibadan.
Mogaji Gbolagade, in a suit number I/448/2019 filed on Tuesday, is praying the court to declare the appointment, installation and turbaning of Alfa Yusuf by the chief Imam, without his consent as family head, as “illegal, unlawful, unconstitutional and contrary to traditional customs and parties in Ibadanland.”
Gbolagade said Yusuf who was turbaned four days ago, without allowing the Akere family to nominate and present a candidate of their choice, was unconstitutional, as he prayed court to restrain the said Alfa from parading himself or further acting as Imam of Akere mosque, Oritamerin, Ibadan.
He also demanded for an order directing Chief Imam of Ibadan to strip Alfa Yusuf of his title and accept Akere family’s choice, to be the Islamic leader of the compound.
In the writ prepared by Gbolagade’s lawyer, Oladipo Olaosebikan, the plaintiff also sought the court’s nod to allow due process of the law to be followed in installing the imam for the compound in due course

Akinremi Jagaban Congratulates Xtians at Easter

A newly elected member of the House of Representatives for Ibadan North federal constituency, Hon. Musiliudeen Olaide Akinremi has congratulated Christians on the occasion of this year’s Easter celebration.

Akinremi popularly called Jagaban said the season provided the living, especially Christians with the grace of ruminating over the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ who laid down his life to atone for the sins of mankind.

The lawmaker also congratulated Governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi, his wife, Chief (Mrs) Florence Ajimobi, the party chairman, Chief Akin Oke and all other party stakeholders.

He reechoed his desire to bring smiles to the faces of his constituents when he assumes office in June.

Jagaban urged them to imbibe the teachings of Jesus Christ as symbolized by Easter.

This is just as he urged the people to assist one another because “It is by doing that the society can fare better. We should also try to forgive one another because Jesus Christ preaches that a lot.”

He, however, urged them to celebrate modestly and not be extravagant.

A former Secretary to Oyo state Government and the 2019 gubernatorial candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, Chief Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli has felicitated Christians across the state on this year’s Easter celebration.

Alli, a senior chief in Ibadan and one of the leaders of the coalition that berthed the incoming administration of the Governor-Elect, Engr. Seyi Makinde, rejoiced with the Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji; the Osi Olubadan and his mentor, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, members of ZLP and the entire political class across the length and breadth of the state.

The former Chairman, Odu’a Investment Company Limited, in an Easter message personally signed by him, reminded the people to reflect on the worthy life exhibited by Jesus Christ, which is ‘love, sacrifice and selflessness’.

He said the reason for the celebration also rubbed positively on his life as his 2019 birthday coincided with this year’s Easter.

He said the avalanche of well wishes by people of the state and others from diverse cultures, tribes and religions, for him, will remain indelible in his heart.

Alli then thanked his well wishers for the honour done on him and assured them that he would continue to dedicate his life and energy to ensure the success of the new administration, and more importantly, greater service to humanity in general.

Lagos Assembly: ‘Alli-Macaulay Will Surpass Predecessors in Amuwo-Odofin’

With the inauguration of the ninth Lagos state House of Assembly inches nearer, some residents of Amuwo Odofin constituency 1, have applauded the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress and former Governor of the state, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on the victory of Mojisola Alli-Macaulay at the recently concluded elections.
Mojisola Alli-Macaulay popularly called Mama defeated her arch rival and incumbent lawmaker, Dipo Olorunrinu of the Peoples Democratic Party to emerge as the new lawmaker to represent Amuwo Odofin constituency 1 in March 9 gubernatorial and house of Assembly elections.
A group, Women Advancement Network in Lagos state, described Alli-Macaulay as a seasoned broadcaster, with grassroots network to advance the cause of women, widows, children and the vulnerable amongst the constituents.
The coordinator of WAN, Priscilla Kuforiji said Alli-Macaulay “is a competent, cerebral and capable woman with character.
“We are so confident of her pedigree, resourcefulness and unblemished records of private and public service she is bringing to the lawmaking tasks ahead,” Kuforiji added.
A community leader, Chief James Agbaje in  401 road, said Alli-Macaulay represented a new wine, going by her carriage and conduct during the electioneering, saying that, “we pray that her tenure ushers in glad tidings for the entire Amuwo Odofin constituency 1”.
In 207 road, a constituent who preferred anonymity said the last four years was a turbulent one for some residents in Amuwo Odofin because of the alleged high handedness of a certain lawmaker reputed to be a ‘gun runner’ with several cases with the security agents’.
A pharmacist, Eucharia Chukwu who have outlets in 402 and 512 roads recalled how some loyalists of a candidate were beaten blue and black because of the antecedents of their candidate, “who was reputed to be arming thugs to unleash terrors on hapless citizens.
“The said candidate failed at last poll, because he has a pending trial with the Nigerian Police  on unlicensed ammunition charges and other criminal acts”, Chukwu added.
An APC chief, Mallam Garba Muhammad in Festac suburb, said the party’s screening was the best which allowed people of proven integrity to emerge at all levels. Special thanks to our leader, Asiwaju Tinubu for discovering quality men and women to fly our tickets for the 2019 elections.
“And with Mojisola Alli-Macaulay as the lawmaker-elect for Amuwo Odofin 1, residents will now breathe a sigh of relief. The Southwest coordinator for the newly elected lawmakers to the House of Representatives in the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Musiliudeen Olaide Akinremi has warned against divisive tendencies that may jeopardise the chances of the zone from clinching the speakership of the ninth National Assembly.
Akinremi in a chat with journalists on Tuesday in Ibadan, said the meeting the lawmakers-elect under the platform of the APC held last Sunday, with the Governor of Oyo state and party leader, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, was basically on the need to reposition the party ahead of the 2023 elections.
Speaking against the backdrop of a statement credited to some APC youths in the state, blaming the governor for directing them (lawmakers) to support the aspiration of Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Akinremi said governor did not ask anyone to support any aspirant but merely harped on the need for all of them to be loyal and abide by the party’s decision.
According to him, “Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila is one of us from this zone and indeed our brother. But the issue discussed last Sunday at the Oluyole residence of Governor Abiola Ajimobi was principally on how to unite the party members and rally them ahead of 2023 election. He spoke extensively on party’s supremacy and the need for all of us to be loyal to the party’s cause.
”Our leader said it is a sin for anyone of us to go against the party’s decision. And we all agreed with him. You recall, 10 days ago, I hosted a meeting of the newly elected lawmakers from across six states of Southwest, here in Ibadan and we all agreed to toe the path of honour by abiding with the party’s decision. The purpose of the meeting was to galvanise ourselves for a common agenda.
“I will continue to put my strength and resources in all that will make our party, APC greater not only in Ibadan, Oyo state but across Southwest states. Our national coordinator, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo from Ekiti shares my sentiment and he came all the way from his state like others. We all prayed that our zone should be given the position of speakership and that has not changed. But we need to caution ourselves and not allow the opportunity to slip us by,” Akinremi remarked.
He also admonished the concerned youths to await the party’s decision on the matter, saying the APC leadership would arrive at a decision that would be beneficial to the state and the Yorubaland in general.
Also the APC deputy National Youth Leader, Afeez Bolaji Repete in a telephone chat on Tuesday, disagreed with a lawmaker from Oyo federal constituency, Akeem Adeyemi over his statement on Monday that Ajimobi had adopted Gbajabiamila.
Repete said Adeyemi must have quoted the governor out of context because “his excellency, senator Abiola Ajimobi as the leader and father of the party in the state always put the interest of the state first in whatever he does.
“In as much that the national leadership of the party is yet to zone the position of the speakership to the south western zone of the country, we are very optimistic that if eventually it is zoned to the southwest, Oyo State will never be pushed aside as we have two qualified persons vying for the position of speakership from the state.
“Nothing is wrong if Hon. Akeem adeyemi is declaring for Hon. Gbajabiamila, he has the constitutional power to do so but he has no power to speak and address the press on behalf of our leader.
“As we await the official declaration from the governor as regards the issue of speakership, I urge all our honourable- elect to stand and defend Oyo agenda,” Repete counselled.

Nursing school graduation ceremony, endowment funds hold Thursday

The Provost, Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery Eleyele Ibadan, Mrs. Gbonjubola Owolabi has reechoed that the college was faced with challenges of expanding the scope of training, injecting vitality into academic programmes and increasing human resources.

She said that the 70th anniversary of the college which began last week, provides an opportunity for the alumni members to come forward and identify with the needs of their Alma Mata.

Owolabi hinted that streamlining the courses in the college, in line with what is obtainable in other Polytechnics and Colleges of Nursing and Midwifery in Nigeria, was also part of the issues on the front burner for the discourse as weeklong celebration kicked-off last Friday.

The provost said the anniversary lecture was held on Monday, with graduation ceremony and launching of the endowment funds, taking place on Thursday, April 4.

Mrs. Owolabi added that part of the celebration of the anniversary include, free medical services for interested members of the public and relations of the alumni members.

Akinremi Jagaban Emerges Coordinator for S’ West ‘First Timers’ APC Reps

The House of Representatives lawmakers-elect from across six states in Southwest Nigeria, had picked Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (Ondo state) alongside Hon. Prince Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi as their National and Zonal Coordinators respectively.

Their appointments followed last week meeting in Abuja by the new lawmakers from the zone, on the need to have representatives who can galvanise their positions in the leadership structure of the ninth House of Representatives billed for inauguration in June.

Also, the ‘first time’ lawmakers rose from a closed-door meeting in Ibadan on Friday and pledged their allegiance to party’s decision on house leadership structure.

Led by their national coordinator, Hon. Tunji-Ojo, alongside their Southwest coordinator, Hon. Akinremi, they all converged at Ibadan Business School, Bodija and expressed willingness to ‘at all times remain loyal party members’.

They said they had no objection to the party’s position on selection of the house leadership.

Akinremi, the host lawmaker who was flanked by James Owolabi (Ifako-Ijaye, Lagos state); Peter Owolabi (Ekiti North constituency 1); and Lanre Edun (Abeokuta South), who spoke to reporters on behalf of the other lawmakers, said, “we had a fruitful deliberation during the meeting which lasted over three hours.

Akinremi Jagaban said “all of us agreed on the party’s supremacy and the need to rally support for the success of President Muhammadu Buhari administration when we are inaugurated in June this year as members of the ninth National Assembly.”

Akinremi who was recently elected to represent Ibadan North federal constituency in Abuja further said, “we all agreed to abide by the consensus arrangement of the party in choosing the house leadership.

“We pledged to protect the interest of the party, especially on the need to make APC more stronger ahead of the 2023, in Yorubaland” Akinremi Jagaban told journalists.

The elected member for the House of Representatives in Ibadan North federal constituency, Prince Musiliudeen Olaide Akinremi has commended the giant strides of the outgoing Governor of Oyo state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi in almost eight years of governing the 43year-old Pacesetter state.

Akinremi, popularly called Jagaban, in two separate messages to Ajimobi and the new Governor-elect, Mr. Seyi Makinde, said history of the state would remember both for their legacies.

The Rep-elect said, “Governor Ajimobi’s giant strides on the sand of time will remain indelible in the annals of the state. He came, saw and conquered”.

On the new Governor, Hon. Akinremi said, “Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, God repays your kindness and philanthropic activities of over two decades, geared towards lifting the mass of our people out of poverty, want and deprivation, with your resounding victory.

“I cannot but congratulate you on your epochal success at the poll. You are a man imbued with milk of human kindness. And as a lawmaker and one of your kinsmen, I join others to pledge my support for your administration which will take off In Shaa Allah on May 29.

“The outgoing administration has done its best and all eyes are therefore on you to surpass whatever the giant strides of Ajimobi’s government are. As a lawmaker, I will lend a supportive hand to your efforts at developing our dear state to be in the league of better governed states, to make more democratic dividends available to citizenry.

“Engr. Makinde, with heart and voice, I wish you best of luck and all-round success as you assume the mantle of leadership of our dear state. May God make your tenure a peaceful one. Your time will be a model and benchmark for others coming after you as well,” Akinremi added.

A pressure group, ‘Agitators for Good Governance in Oyo State (AGGOS) declared support for governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Saturday’s election,  Engineer Oluseyi Abidoun Makinde.
AGGOS in a press statement after the marathon meeting of the group which had in attendance hundreds of members from the five geopolitical zones of the state, appealed to the people of Oyo State to massively turnout on Saturday and use their votes to usher in good government to be led by a spirited politician, Makinde.
In the statement signed by their State Coordinator, Prince Debowale Adeoye, they said, “we have had meetings with who is who, leaders of professional bodies, communities leaders, veterans and Pensioners Aid Organisation, we know what their desires are and where they want the state to be in terms of good governance with human face.
“Seyi Makinde is the only candidate that will see all citizens of Oyo State as his subjects, irrespective of age, creed, political or religion affiliation. Makinde Will be the governor of all and all. He will ensure adequate security of lives and property in the state.
“He will institute concept of collective leadership and discourage stubborn, ill-advised,  and unilateral actions of just one emperor that is destroying the principle of democracy.
“‘Makinde will provide good healthcare, community health services, new lease of life for pensioners and senior citizens in the State.
“We can assure everyone that Seyi Makinde will support various projects on girl-child advancement, especially “Support a just world that advances girl-child rights and equity”.
“He will also be a governor that will implement United Nations 1995 Beijing Declaration, Platform for Action’s Resolutions, the most progressive blueprint ever for women’s rights.
“Seyi Makinde will revive education sector and make education accessible and affordable for all. The present standard of education in Oyo State is worrisome and embarrassing. Oyo State is currently occupying 26th position in Nigeria out of 36 states and FCT, the worst ever.
“According to a report by StatiSense, a data consulting firm, Oyo State has the highest number of out-of-school children in the South West, Nigeria, this is disturbing,” Adeoye added.
